NAFI Mourns Loss Of Co-Founder Ralph Nelson

February 24, 2006 - Ralph F. Nelson, founding father and Vice President Emeritus of the National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI), passed away February 22 at age 71. He held NAFI number 4 and had served on the Association's Board of Directors for 34 years.

Throughout his years in aviation, Ralph initiated and managed a wide range of general aviation safety programs as he rose through the ranks to Sr. VP at AOPA. One of his lasting legacies is the General Aviation Awards program and particularly, the Certificated Flight Instructor of the Year award. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made to the NAFI Foundation, 35 East Livingston Avenue, Columbus, OH 43215, to establish the Ralph Nelson Memorial Flight Instructor Scholarship.
